An estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will occur among women in the United States during 2009 and an estimated 40,170 women will die from breast cancer. These are scary statistics. October is officially known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout the world and many events and campaigns urge women to get their mammograms annually at this time of year. • Self-examination detects a large percentage of breast cancer followed by mammograms.
• Breast Cancer deaths have been on the decline since 1990; this decrease is believed to be the result of earlier detection and superior technology.
