Windsor Imaging, in central Fort Pierce, recently announced an innovative program for women with financial hardship who are in need of a mammogram. The program, named the Pink Ribbon Payment Plan will allow women to make a small down payment followed by monthly payments over a short course of time. The program is thought to be the first of its kind on the Treasure Coast.

Digital Mammography is often the first detection of breast cancer and often times the reason many women survive breast cancer. Yet far too often, women are unable to schedule the test due to lack of insurance and money. After months of consideration and hearing too often that lack of money was the reason for many of Windsor's patients not obtaining the test, Deby Duke decided it was time to work with the patient's budget. "We at Windsor Imaging decided a long time ago that we never wanted a woman to go undiagnosed because she didn't have the money for a mammogram," Ms. Duke said. "So we came up with a way for women to make payments over time in order to get this life saving test. We don't want a single woman to go without this test."

The Susan G. Komen and American Cancer Society websites report that approximately 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer were diagnosed in 2010 alone. And more than 39,840 women died from breast cancer last year. Getting regular screening tests is the best way for women to lower their risk of dying from breast cancer. Screening tests can find breast cancer early, when it's most treatable. Yet many women who are at risk do not get the test because of financial constraints. Ms. Duke and her staff want to get the word out that if women are struggling to come up with the money for these tests, they should call the staff at Windsor Imaging. The Pink Ribbon Payment Plan allows women to make a payment of $29.99 down followed by four monthly payments of $22 for a Digital Mammogram. There's also a plan to receive a Digital Mammogram plus a Bone Density Test for only $39.99 down and 5 monthly payments of $22 per month. The Plan, designed for uninsured patients, requires they have a valid credit card or checking account, but there is no credit check or application process needed.
